A new EU OT on the block

So Croatia has entered EU this morning. We have celebrated it in style and we do hope that this will make thing better. Occupational therapists in Croatia have gotten something due to the fact that we had to accessed to the European Union – because of the Directive 36/2005 occupational therapy is an regulated profession. But the fact stays with us, we have the law but a lot of areas do not comply with it (we are still not allowed to open private practice even that our law allows us, other professionals and non-professionals are employed at OT posts, etc), Maybe being an EU country will change this, or just make it harder for those who do not obey the law.

For me being a part of certain EU OT organization, as just a NA representative at the Council and a member of Executive board, I have gained a lot, personally and professionally. I have learned how to use legal system to lobby, how to communicate with the politicians, how to understand their perspective, but still one thing puzzles me – I am always surprised how fast and how drastically politicians change.

So, to conclude my story for this evening – hope that our politicians will change for the better – 4 better CroOT world
